Balrampur Chini Mills’ PLA vertical secures first official institutional order
Balrampur Bioyug has secured order from the Lucknow Cantonment Board (LCB)
Balrampur Chini Mills’ PLA vertical -- Balrampur Bioyug has secured its first official institutional order from the Lucknow Cantonment Board (LCB). The order includes compostable garbage bags (in two sizes), 300 ml PLA bottles, 3D-printed PLA compostable pens, and PLA folders -- all manufactured from renewable, bio-based Polylactic Acid (PLA), a 100% compostable material with a low carbon footprint that leaves no microplastics behind.
The order comes ahead of the commissioning of India’s first domestic industrial-scale PLA manufacturing unit built by the company at Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, to be commissioned in October 2026, reflecting institutional confidence in indigenous bio-based innovation. The move builds upon the legacy of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and its research arm DFRL, which developed India’s first PLA water bottle in Mysuru in September 2023. Through Balrampur Bioyug, the company underscores that sustainable materials are scalable, ready-for-use solutions, accelerating the transition from a linear consumption model to a circular, regenerative economy.
Balrampur Chini Mills, founded in 1975, is one of the largest sugar manufacturing company in India.
