Nifty ends higher amid renewed hopes of Iran-US peace talk
Nifty April 2026 futures closed at 24225.00 (LTP) on Wednesday, at a discount of 6.30 points over spot closing of 24231.30
Snapping previous session’s losses, Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty settled higher with gains of over one and half percent on Wednesday amid ease in geopolitical tensions. Index made a gap-up start and maintained its gain throughout the session as renewed hopes of Iran-US peace talk, and lowering crude oil prices boosted market sentiments. Index witnessed broad based buying across the sector as traders opted to buy fundamentally good stocks after recent fall. Further, sentiments remained up-beat with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) report stating that India’s economy is expected to grow a tad faster at 6.5 per cent in 2027 despite escalating tensions in West Asia.
India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility decreased by 8.93% and reached 18.67. The 50 share Nifty up by 388.65 point or 1.63% to settle at 24,231.30.
Nifty April 2026 futures closed at 24225.00 (LTP) on Wednesday, at a discount of 6.30 points over spot closing of 24231.30, while Nifty May 2026 futures ended at 24351.10 (LTP), at a premium of 119.80 points over spot closing. Nifty April futures saw an addition of 901 units, taking the total open interest (Contracts) to 2,88,395 units. The near month derivatives contract will expire on April 28, 2026. (Provisional)
From the most active contracts, HDFC Bank April 2026 futures traded at flat with spot closing of 810.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 37,099. (Provisional)
ICICI Bank April 2026 futures traded at a premium of 0.50 points at 1347.50 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1347.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 30,323. (Provisional)
Infosys April 2026 futures traded at flat with spot closing of 1305.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 27,895. (Provisional)
Tata Consultancy Services April 2026 futures traded at a discount of 18.80 points at 2534.00 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 2552.80. The numbers of contracts traded were 26,435. (Provisional)
HCL Technologies April 2026 futures traded at a discount of 27.20 points at 1423.10 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1450.30. The numbers of contracts traded were 18,873. (Provisional)
Among, Nifty calls, 25000 SP from the April month expiry was the most active call with an addition of 6,289 units open interests. Among Nifty puts, 24000 SP from the April month expiry was the most active put with an addition of 12,913 units open interests. The maximum OI outstanding for Calls was at 26000 SP (76,601 units) and that for Puts was at 23000 SP (75,382 units). The respective Support and Resistance levels of Nifty are: Resistance 24292.87 -- Pivot Point 24219.33 -- Support 24157.77.
The Nifty Put Call Ratio (PCR) finally stood at (1.09) for April month contract. The top five scrips with highest PCR on Dalmia Bharat (1.40), Asian Paints (1.28), Tata Consumer Products (1.24), Polycab India (1.20), and GAIL (India) (1.20).
Among most active underlying ICICI Bank witnessed an addition of 11,229 units of Open Interest in the April month futures, Bharti Airtel witnessed an addition of 4,557 units of Open Interest in the April month future, HDFC Bank witnessed a contraction of 457 units of Open Interest in the April month future, Infosys witnessed an addition of 4,997 units of Open Interest in the April month futures and Multi Commodity Exchange of India witnessed an addition of 275 units of Open Interest in the April month futures.
