19 newly and re-elected RS members take oath in parliament
Nineteen newly elected and re-elected Rajya Sabha (RS) members took the oath of office in Parliament. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan. Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju were present during the ceremony in the RS chamber. Floor leaders of respective parties were also present in the House.
The members sworn in include five representatives from Maharashtra: Ramdas Bandu Athawale, Maya Chintaman Ivnate, Sharadchandra Pawar, Ramrao Sakharam Wadkute and Jyoti Nagnath Waghmare. Tamil Nadu is represented by Christopher Manickam, Anbumani Ramadoss, Constandine Ravindran, L K Sudhish, M Thambidurai and Tiruchi Siva. West Bengal members are Babul Supriyo, Menaka Guruswamy, Rajeev Kumar, Rukmini Mallik and Biswajit Sinha, while Odisha is represented by Santrupt Mishra, Dilip Kumar Ray and Manmohan Samal. Most members took oath in their respective regional languages.
Chairman Radhakrishnan congratulated all the newly elected members. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also conveyed his congratulations to the newly sworn-in members. He noted the significance of the oath-taking occurring while Parliament was not in session and expressed hope that the new MPs would contribute positively to Rajya Sabha proceedings.
