NTPC gets nod for Rs 5,821.90 crore investment in BESS project

The Board of Directors of NTPC in its meeting held on March 28, 2026 has, inter-alia, approved the same

NTPC has received approval from Board of Directors for investment proposal for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a total capacity of 4.70 GWh, at an estimated project cost of Rs 5,821.90 crore.

The company’s board has also approved the additional equity commitment of Rs 3,173.67 crore in Meja Urja Nigam (MUNPL), the Joint Venture Company of NTPC and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL), for setting up Meja Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II (3x800 MW). With this investment, the total equity commitment in MUNPL would reach to Rs 5,000 crore. The release of additional equity will be subjected to receipt of proportionate equity contribution from UPRVUNL

NTPC is the largest power utility company in India and has presence in Coal, Gas, Solar PV, Hydro and Wind Power Generation and Coal Mining.
